John Cena Confirmed for James Gunn’s Upcoming ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel
Director James Gunn has finally shared the official cast list for DC Comics’ upcoming Suicide Squad sequel, confirming the long-running rumors that 16-time WWE world champion John Cena will have a role in the film.
The Suicide Squad is expected to hit theaters in August 2021 so it’s still a long way out, likely due to Gunn’s busy schedule working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is due out in the same year. He also wrote the script, based on Joshn Ostrander’s original comic series.
The original 2016 film starred Margo Robbie as infamous Batman villain Harley Quinn, alongside a rouge’s gallery of convicted criminals (including Will Smith) tasked by the U.S. government to fight crime in the wake of Superman’s death.
It looks like the sequel is shaping up to be even bigger with the announcement of Sean Gunn (another Marvel crossover), the returning Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney from the original, the aforementioned John Cena, as well as Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, Idris Elba and many others.
