The meeting will be held three days before the European Council summit, at which EU27 leaders will decide whether sufficient progress has been made in Brexit talks to enable the parties to move on to discussions of their future trade relationship.

The dinner has been planned “for a little while,” according to a Downing Street aide, and is the latest in a string of bilateral talks over recent days between May and EU leaders, including¬†German Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Council President Donald Tusk and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
